Sunset, Painted Wall

The last moments of the setting sun create a sunstar above the rim of the Painted Wall at Black Canyon of the Gunnision National Park. The Black Canyon is a highly underrated destination in the west.

Chasm Glow, Mohave Point

The alpenglow on two prominent unnamed peaks reflects into the shallows of a lake deep in the heart of the lesser-visited San Juans.

"Heart of Fire"

One of my favorite parts of camping high up on Muley Point in Utah is the view over the goosenecks of the San Juan into distant Arizona and Monument Valley. One of my least favorite things about Muley Point is the intense, blow yourself, your tent, and your vehicle over the edge wind. But after an evening of furious winds, this brief fiery sunrise over Monument Valley made it all worthwhile.

Sunset, Little Colorado River Canyon

The sun breaks through a wall of snow above the distant North Rim of the Grand Canyon. Below the plateau, the chocolatey Little Colorado River cuts through its gorge towards the confluence with the Colorado River and the Grand Canyon, a mile or so upstream.
