Autumn Sunstar, Dancing Aspen

At the height of fall, the sun penetrates the golden forest of Dancing Aspen near Ophir, Colorado. This once quite place has now become iconic and overrun with photographers. I spent a recent morning here, along with a dozen or so other photographers and workshop participants. Still, it is a magical place in the forest.

Autumn Dreams, Canyon de Chelly

We were fortunate enough to take a guided hike from the rim to the floor into a seldom seen area of Canyon de Chelly National Monument in early November. The cottonwood trees at the canyon floor were electric. I came across this scene and it felt like a dream, with the soft light, electric colors, and the smell of autumn leafs. Our guide was a park service employee and local Navajo college student back on break from college--his family had a ranch in the canyon. I hope he and his family are well, as the cornavirus has devestated the Navajo Nation.

Of Boles and Rain

On a rainy afternoon near Silverjack Reservoir, my friend Adam and I stopped along the edge of an aspen grove in the pouring rain to work our way through the forest. I used an umbrella to cover the camera and carefully composed this image of the aspen boles in the rain. Opening in the Thicket

Somewhere in southwest Colorado, there is an amazing thicket of dense aspens that I walked through this fall. Breaking through a particularly dense section, I came across a small opening in the woods. I composed this image at that spot.
